Welcome
First State Community Green Energy Coalition, an alliance of seven Delaware-based organizations, announced it was one of 23 teams nationwide to be awarded a Community Energy Innovation Prize from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Designed to promote equitable access to clean energy resources among communities, this award will help enhance Delaware’s future as a national model for sustainable energy solutions. Led by BASEStud.io – a Delaware public benefit corporation dedicated to producing climate resilient community lighting – the prize-winning First State team also includes Delaware Prosperity Partnership, New Castle Prevention Coalition, Coming Clean, the Foundation for Renewable Energy and Environment (FREE), the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew & Matthew, and the American Sustainable Business Network. Working in tandem with community residents, this team plans to build a roadmap for a solar-powered clean energy hub along the Route 9 Corridor between Wilmington and the City of New Castle, which will seed innovation, while providing workforce training and clean energy jobs.
SOLAR
As the earth’s most plentiful and inexhaustible source of clean, green energy, the sun will undoubtedly play a critical role in powering our state, now and in the future. So this project provides a roadmap to build community support around an energy hub, that will helping our families, businesses and communities:
Save money on electricity costs that will only continue to rise.
• Create plenty of well-paying local jobs.
• Protect the fundamental right to a healthy environment, by making the air safer to breath.
• Build stronger social networks.
• Illuminate previously unlit spaces, to enhance public safety and promote wholesome outdoor activities.
• Keep the lights on the power flowing in the event of grid outages and/or adverse weather events.
NEXT STEP
No doubt about it. Community solar energy hubs, such as the one we are proposing, will pave the way to a more affordable and sustainable energy future that provides communities with a wealth of economic and environmental, health and social benefits.
And now that our First State team has landed the prize, we want to help the communities we serve access those benefits. So to get our project off the ground, we will soon launch a planning process, grounded in the philosophy that all community members have the right to be informed and consulted, involved and empowered. We invite you to join us in these activities, knowing that together we can make a meaningful impact and create positive change for generations to come.
